Simon Cowell has left K-Pop fans fuming after revealing that he was keen on introducing a new genre, UK-Pop. 

On Wednesday morning, the music mogul, 60, uploaded a video from his sofa as he urged hopefuls to apply to the new series X Factor: The Band, in which he revealed he was hoping to rival iconic K-Pop bands such as BTS and BLACKPINK with UK-Pop. 

The admission didn’t go down too well with fans as they accused Cowell of ‘taking the title from biggest group on the planet’ and attempting to ‘make it white.’

Sitting on his sofa, Simon said: ‘Right now K-Pop you could argue is ruling the world. Now it’s time for UK-Pop.’

Fuming K-Pop fans weren’t too happy as they vented: ‘I never thought I’d see the day where kpop Stans are united bc we collectively agree Simon cowell and ukpop is a joke.’

In the video, Simon also revealed: ‘You may have already heard about this but if you haven’t we are launching X Factor: The Band this December.

‘We have weeks to get this together. Very simply… we are going to find either the biggest boy group in the world, or the biggest girl group in the world.

‘And you’ve got days to enter. We’ve done it before we’re gonna do it again.’

He told : ‘This is what really happened. I was approached to co-produce that show last year by Little Mix’s management.’

‘I told them the problem was we have a conflict of interest because we are launching X Factor The Band in 2020. We were told their show was going to launch in 2021.

‘Then we had the fallout and find out Little Mix were bringing their show forward. Was that intentional because we are doing our show? I have no idea.’

Little Mix was formed in 2011 when Simon hand picked Jesy Nelson, Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock to be members of a new girl band.

Simon has reportedly axed next month’s X Factor All Stars, which was expected to feature former winners including Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke.

A source told MailOnline: ‘Simon has hit the pause button on All Stars and will be bringing forward The X Factor – The Band. It’s not been axed as such but Simon has made the decision to move things around.’

Louis Walsh and Paula Abdul, who were set to judge All Stars, have also reportedly been scrapped ahead of the launch of X Factor The Band.

Auditions for ITV’s latest venture will begin soon at Sony Music in London, with the live finals set to be held at Birmingham Arena in December.
